4 Things You Should Trust Your Wedding Photographer With

When it comes to any relationship, trust needs to be a key ingredient, and this rings true when you hire a vendor in the wedding industry, whether it’s the coordinator, the DJ or even your photographer. There are plenty of reasons why you selected the wedding photographer you chose and for good reason, because as the years go by, your coordinator is a memory, your music is a memory, the venue, the food, the dancing, all memories. But your photos live on. The staff here at Capture Aloha Photography understands that you have to trust the photographer so that the photos will be beautiful and that all the people you want in photos are captured. We also feel these “trusts” should also be part of all photography packages and not just weddings. So, what else should you trust them with? Well, here are 4 Things You Should Trust Your Wedding Photographer With.

            1. The Best Time of the Day to Photograph Your Wedding

This is especially true for outdoor weddings. After all, lighting is key to creating beautiful images and the natural light from the sun will produce some of the best lighting around. That does not mean that any time of the day will give you the same results. An experienced photographer will know what time of the day is best to take those gorgeous outdoor photos without the worry of leaving shadows going across your face or when to step outside to take some nighttime inspired shots. And if you are having a beach wedding on Maui, knowing the sun, heat, winds and shadows are key to any successful wedding photography session. That is why we often recommend sunrise or sunset sessions because many of those elements are reduced or eliminated.

            2. Selection of the Location of the Shot

A good wedding photographer will have taken the time to familiarize themselves with your ceremony and/or reception location before your event to find the best places to photograph. They’ll know what areas get the best lighting and where the best scenery is. We can’t speak for all photographers, but if your wedding location is at a place we’ve never shot at, we typically will go there days in advance to get a feel for all the nuances, and sunlight at the same time of your wedding and reception. If we’ve shot weddings and/or other photography at your location previously, then we know it pretty well already. If you haven’t selected a location yet for your ceremony, we recommend the beautiful beaches of Maui. You can see some of the Best Maui Beaches here.

            3. Posing for Photos.

If you hire an experienced photographer, they should know which poses are the most flattering for you. They can see how the light is illuminated on you and how the background makes the photo pop with color. While some wedding photographers will take into consideration your picture ideas, don’t be offended if they downplay some of your ideas because sometimes, you’ll be working with limited time and light, and you don’t want to waste much of either on your big day and they’ll know if the lighting will work with those poses or not. As always, try to communicate some of those ideas you have to your photographer in advance of your wedding day so that they can try to accommodate those wishes.

            4. Editing Your Photos

First and foremost, trust your photographer’s creative eye during their editing process. They have the experience of knowing which images will look best in color, black and white, how they should be or not be cropped and which ones will work with special effects added to them, if any. In most cases, you saw your photographer’s portfolio before hiring them, and you already saw what their edited versions of the photos look like. Trust them to use their skills to make each image stunning.

The Bottom Line…

There are many factors you need to take into consideration when it comes to hiring a wedding photographer. Look at their photos, review their style and talk to them. You will either feel comfortable with them or not. But at the end of the day, it’s your special day, therefore you have to trust your wedding photographer.
